TOOL 01 · BACKLINK PROSPECT CHECKER

See which prospect pages are worth a comment, before anyone opens them

Paste or upload the list you already have. The Backlink Prospect Checker opens every page and reports whether the comment form is open, whether the link is dofollow, the Ahrefs DR and the spam risk. Five core checks run on every URL, and you can add up to seven more. It never posts a comment, signs in, or tries to get past a CAPTCHA.

It is the first of three WebDiagnosis tools, alongside the Backlink Verifier. It checks blog-comment opportunities, and it cannot promise that a comment gets approved, indexed or helps rankings.

5 core checks, always run
12 checks max · above 12 refused
100 URLs per Quick Check · 50 with extras
21 optional checks · choose up to seven

The opportunity signal is comment links, specifically. This tool does not qualify guest posts, directories, forums or editorial placements, and it does not find prospects.

FIT

Who it is for, and who it is not for

Use this tool when you already have exact prospect URLs and want to review comment-link opportunities. Other placement types need a different workflow.

A fit if you

  • Already hold a list of exact prospect page URLs and need it qualified.
  • Work comment links specifically, and know what a dofollow comment is worth to you.
  • Want to know what each page offers before anyone opens it by hand.
  • Want the evidence behind a verdict, including how many links it was read from.
  • Need a shortlist a VA or a client can act on without re-checking it.

Not a fit if you

  • Need prospects found for you. This is not a backlink index and it does not discover pages.
  • Are chasing guest posts, directories, forums or editorial placements.
  • Want comments posted automatically. It never posts, signs in, or attempts a CAPTCHA.
  • Expect a guarantee that a moderator will approve your comment.
  • Judge prospects on DR alone. Checking each page is the whole point.

CORE CHECKS

The five core checks, with what each one answers

These five run on every scan and cost one credit per URL between them.

FieldWhat it answersWhen it says Unknown
URL The exact page you asked us to check, not its domain and not its homepage. Never. A page we could not load is reported as a load failure on its own row.
Comment Opportunity Open, Closed, or None: whether a human could leave a comment on this page today. A form was present but we could not classify it.
Link Type What your link would carry, read from links already sitting in that page's comments. No existing comment links to read, so there is no evidence either way.
Ahrefs DR Domain Rating by Ahrefs, for the page's domain. The domain was not returned by the Ahrefs lookup.
Comment Spam Risk How spammy the comments already on that page look. No comments visible, so there is nothing to assess.

OPTIONAL CHECKS

Twenty-one optional checks, in four groups

Pick up to seven. Credits follow the total number of checks on a URL, and the five core checks always count. The Topic & Relevance checks are read from the same page visit as everything else, so they add no extra page request.

Comment opportunity

5 fields

How the comments on this page behave, and what a link there would be worth.

Link Placement
Body means your link can go in the comment text. Website Field means only in the website box, which is a different kind of link.
Moderation
Whether the page says comments are held for approval, and whether any comment has actually published. Yes proves comments get through; No does not prove they do not.
Recent Activity
The newest date among the visible comments. A form that is open but dead is still a dead end.
Existing Comment Links
Outbound links already sitting in the comments. Proof that links survive there rather than an assumption that they would.
Link Confidence
How much evidence the link type came from. High is measured from five or more links on the page. Low is a platform default rather than something observed.

Page and access

6 fields

Whether the page is reachable at all, and what stands between you and posting.

Page Status
Live, Redirected with where it went, Blocked, Dead with the response code, or Needs JS Rendering.
CAPTCHA
Which anti-bot system guards the page. Reported only, never bypassed.
Login Required
Whether you have to sign in before you can post anything.
Indexability
Whether the page allows itself to be indexed. A noindex page is a weak place to earn a link.
Platform
The CMS or forum software behind the page.
Page Title
The page title as it stands today.

Topic and relevance

7 fields · no extra request

What the site is about and what this exact page is about. Read from the same page load as everything else, so these cost no extra request.

Page Topic
What THIS page is about, read from its own title, H1, breadcrumb and URL path. Unknown when the page gives no evidence of its own. It is never guessed from the rest of the site.
Site Category
What the whole site is about, decided from its navigation, name and description across every page of that host in your list.
Site Subcategory
The narrower category, always one of a fixed list of 91, so you can filter and group on it instead of reading free text.
Topic-Site Match
Whether this page is about what the site is about. Off topic is the interesting one: a beauty site with a casino page.
Content Type
Article, forum thread, product, guestbook. The page’s form rather than its subject.
Declared Category
The category the page states about itself, word for word, from a breadcrumb or a schema field. Blank when it declares none, never filled in with a guess.
Organisation Type
What kind of body runs the site. An association that campaigns about water is an association, not a water company.

Scoring and verdict

3 fields

Our own read on whether the page is worth your time, with the reason attached.

Verdict
Use, Review or Skip, with the one-line reason behind it rather than a bare label.
Opportunity Score
Page health adjusted for link value and friction, 0 to 100.
Difficulty
Easy means you can just post. Medium means an account or a third-party system. Hard means a CAPTCHA, or nowhere to put a link.
CREDITS PER URL
up to 5 checks
1 credit
up to 8 checks
2 credits
up to 12 checks
3 credits
more than 12 checks
refused
A WORKED EXAMPLE
7 total checks → 2 credits / URL
50 URLs × 2 credits = 100 credits
balance after: 400 credits of 500

Extras cap a Quick Check at 50 URLs instead of 100. Above 12 total checks the scan is refused before it starts, rather than run with checks dropped quietly.

WHY PAGE BY PAGE

Checked page by page, not guessed from the domain

Most numbers in a prospect export describe the whole domain: Domain Rating, traffic, referring domains. None of them change when one post closes its comments or a plugin turns every comment link nofollow.

TWO PAGES · ONE DOMAIN · AHREFS DR 72
URLComment OpportunityWhat we read
harborline-review.com/2026/trail-food Open Form present, 9 existing comment links, all dofollow
harborline-review.com/2018/archive/kit-list Closed Comments closed on the archive template. Nothing to place.

Synthetic rows. Hostname invented for illustration.

A comment opportunity is a property of one page and one template. We read that page. Where we cannot read it, we say Unknown instead of substituting the domain’s average.

THE REPORT

The report, its filters, copy and export formats

Your report shows the checks you chose for the scan. Search, sort and filter the table. Copy and export take whatever the table is showing, so clear the filters when you need every row.

Filters and sorting

Filter by comment opportunity, link type, spam risk or verdict. Sort any column. Press a summary card to filter to the rows behind its number.

Comment Opportunity = Open
Link Type = Follow
Comment Spam Risk ≠ High

Copy

Copy puts the current selection and chosen fields on your clipboard as tab-separated text. Paste it into your spreadsheet. Clear the report filters before copying if you need every row.

Export

Download Excel or CSV, or send the report to Google Sheets after granting access. Like Copy, the export takes the rows the table is showing.

UNKNOWN AND LIMITS

Unknown, and what we cannot determine

Unknown is a result, not an error. It means the check ran and produced no evidence either way, and it is reported as such rather than filled in with a platform default dressed up as an observation.

Observed

5 or more existing comment links read on the page. Confidence High.

Inferred

A platform default with no links to read. Confidence Low.

Unknown

No evidence either way. Reported, not guessed.

Whether your comment will be approved

Moderation is a human on the other end. We report that a form is open and what links already sit below the post.

Whether a link will still be there next quarter

We read the page on the scan date, and every row carries that date. Comments get pruned and plugins change.

Anything outside comment links

Guest posts, directories, forums and editorial placements are not qualified here and the fields do not transfer.

Where to find prospects

No discovery, no index. The tool qualifies a list you already hold.

What sits behind a login or a CAPTCHA

Pages requiring either are reported as unread rather than guessed at.

Why a page did not load

Dead pages, timeouts, blocks and redirect loops end in the same place: no page to read. They stay in the denominator.

YOUR STACK

How it fits beside Ahrefs, Semrush, Sheets and an outreach tool

It replaces none of them. It sits in the gap between the export and the outreach.
